Long-form Bio

Duncan is a novelist and software developer living in Portland, Oregon. He is a transplant to the USA, having grown up in Yorkshire in the north of England. He has written many first drafts under the auspices of National Novel Writing Month. Livia and the Corpuscles is his first published novel.

Duncan began writing after he had begun his career as a software developer, making serial fiction for the very small audience of his co-workers at a telecomms manufacturer in Nottingham. While he took a break from narrative fiction after moving to Surrey, he continued to invent fictional elements in roleplaying and collaborative games. After moving to the US in 2001, he started a blog called "Why Should I Listen To You?".

It was National Novel Writing Month which brought Duncan back to writing standalone fiction. He signed up for his first event in 2004, working on a story that had been started and abandoned several times, and blew through the 50,000 words in about three weeks. He has been drafting material under the NaNoWriMo banner ever since. He also has a blog about writing called "Identity Function".

While Duncan has several novels on the road to completion, Livia and the Corpuscles is the first of his books to reach a publishable state.
