Welcome

Welcome to Orangeness, the e-presence of Dunx, aka Duncan Ellis. I am an author and code monkey, and this is where I write about the things I'm interested in. Identity Function is my blog about writing.

Who I Am

I grew up in Yorkshire in the north of England (roughly where the ninth Doctor sounds like he is from) and lived in various parts of England before moving to Oregon in 2001. I met my wonderful wife here, and we have two children.

My writing began when I started work after my degree - it felt like I had read enough that the ideas overflowed onto the page. I stopped writing fiction in 1995 or so, but then picked it up again in 2004 when I signed up for NaNoWriMo. I have been working on novels ever since.

I talk about my books on the Books page, and there is more about me in the press kit.

News

The big news is that Livia and the Corpuscles is has been released into the world. For a bit of stunt writing, it turned out all right.

Why Orange?

I like orange. I'm not a primary colours person: I like the colours inbetween, the mixes, just as I like the minor tones in music. Interstices are one of the things that I am interested in. Orange seems, if not symbolic, then at least symptomatic of that.

Note: this site is in no way connected with Orange Telecommunications - I used to have one of their phones, though. There is also no connection between this page and any other organisation, entity or object utilising the colour orange in its image, advertising or trademarks. This is particularly true of those nasty citrus fruit things.
